Officials at the Texas Department of Public Safety says its chief of Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division 45-year-old John Jones has been fired from the job after being charged with raping a woman at a party.
Jones had been drinking so much, he passed out earlier in the day.
Then he woke back up and began drinking again before authorities say he raped the woman.
Chief Jones was arrested today after a joint operation between the Texas Rangers and the Travis County Sheriff’s office and booked into the Travis County Jail.
The incident happened after Jones threw a party at his home in Leander on July 20, police say.
The victim, a woman in her mid-40s took a ride on an ATV with Jones on his property later in the evening after arriving at around 1 p.m.
She accuses Jones of raping her once they reached a secluded spot in a brushy clearing.
After the crime, Jones returned to the party while the victim left and met up with her friend and mother.
The three then went to the hospital so the victim could undergo forensic testing, according to KXAN.
The victim, a friend of Jones’ wife, told law enforcement Jones had been drinking heavily when he invited her to ride with him on his ATV after he had already passed out then woke back up, according to his arrest affidavit.
After he began drinking again at around 9 p.m., the woman says Jones sat behind her then asked her when the last time she had sex was before he took control then drove to a secluded spot where he raped her.
The Department of Public Safety issued a standard public statement regarding the incident.
“The department takes allegations like this very seriously, and the Texas Rangers are working closely with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading this investigation,” the statement said.
Previously, Jones participated in a round table discussion with the president at the White House during a discussion on immigration and border security.
Jones introduces himself then uses politicized rhetoric attempting to alarm the public about a connection with undocumented immigrants and . . . ironically sexual assault.
Chief Jones, who will have a shot to get his job back if he’s cleared of charges, did not present any hard evidence regarding any link between immigrants and sexual assault.
