A police officer in Luther, Oklahoma was arrested on Sunday night for assaulting another police officer during a domestic abuse situation.
Luther Police Department Officer Anthony Butler, 42, was arrested on August 5, 2018 on complaints of assault and battery on a police officer, domestic abuse by strangulation and two counts of domestic abuse in the presence of a minor child.
According to an affidavit, officers responded at 9:30 p.m. Sunday to a domestic disturbance at a home in Luther. The female victim told 911 dispatch that Butler had come to her residence intoxicated and had begun arguing with her. Upon arrival police said one officer saw Butler on top of the female victim with his hands around her neck.
After multiple verbal commands, the reporting officer said he had to pull Butler off of the woman. But Butler attacked the officer by throwing him into a wall and scratching his neck and chest, News 9 reports.
Two children were at the home during the incident and were horrified.
Backup arrived and Butler was subdued and arrested. Butler was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail. His bond has not been set.
Per his arrest Butler has been suspended from the police department without pay.
