Today, the media world suffered a great loss at the hands of a former disgruntled employee from Virginia’s WDBJ 7 in Roanoke, Virginia.
Immediately after the shooting, two videos emerged; one from the gunman, Vester Lee Flanagan, whose on-air name was Bryce Williams; the other from cameraman, Adam Ward, leading to an almost all-out embargo from media companies on the videos that show the actual shooting from both perspectives.
Then, Virginia State Police ordered a news crew from the BBC News to hand their video over in an evidence seize or delete the footage, leaving them with low quality iPhone video of the police chase that ended with a crash.
Think about it, lets live in this bleeped, censored and black bared world where everything is ok and tragedies only happen in areas of poverty and third-world countries.
Step outside and go to the movies and BAM…
If we leave the decision of whether or not to publish something to the government or even the bigwigs in the mainstream media, then society begins to form this notion that they are the ones with the truth and they hold the key for unlocking said truth.
We become dependent on the system to feed us the truth, which we all know 100 percent truth in today’s world is not highly regarded.
You can look at the Edward Snowden case for crying out loud. This man, a hero in my eyes, blows the whistle on his government and they try to have him arrested and charged, for not censoring, for TELLING THE TRUTH!
So yeah, lets trust them with what and when to feed us regarding the truth, we know how that will turn out… you get my point.
Right?
Well in case you didn’t, the point is, you don’t see the Pope at Best Buy purchasing the latest Eminem album or at the local Adult Video Store purchasing a copy of porn.
Not because big brother won’t let him, but because of freedom of choice.
WHY DOES AMERICA NEED A FEDERAL SPEECH CENSOR OVER THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES TODAY?
The mother-ship for political correctness is located at FCC.gov where are thoughts, visions and ideas get bleeped and censored.
The Communications Act prohibits the FCC from censoring broadcast material, in most cases, and from making any regulation that would interfere with freedom of speech.
The FCC is also barred by law from trying to prevent the broadcast of any point of view.
However there are restrictions in the times certain material can be aired due to possible children in the audience.
Let’s review, Miley Cyrus twerks on National TV, condoms are passed out in health class at high schools, TV shows about pregnant teenagers, etc…
We’ve gotten pretty good at overcoming censorship in the entertainment world. But what about when it comes to telling the whole truth, then why is it all of the sudden taboo.
When a video of a murderer shooting his victims on live TV, a breastfeeding mother on the bus, in the library or in the park are considered obscene and barred from broadcast or publication on our TV’s and computers, that is when we ourselves have given permission for distortion and lies to enter our lives.
When we limit others choices to view and hear what they want for some “greater good,” then you might as well take the Constitution, wad it up, and wipe your ass with it because it wouldn’t be good for much else.
Editor’s note: PINAC chose to run the videos, preferring to publish the truth, rather than filter the truth. A sentiment that Washington Post media analyst Eric Wemple agrees with, who stated that not running the video is “coddling the audience.” CM
