Barely one week after his arrest, a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy pled guilty to domestic violence charges for lighting his girlfriend’s hair on fire using the kitchen stove in a fight over a baby pacifier.
LASD Deputy Alejandro Flores faced 25 years in state prison for the charges.
Flores got a 6 month jail sentence.
LASD Deputy Flores will serve a one-year prison sentence with six months suspended, and three years of probation.
His former live-in girlfriend filed charges on June 30th allegeing that Flores beat her, setting her hair on fire and also outlined a history of abuse.
Deputy Flores allegedly broke his spouse’s nose two years ago, but the two have a child that is 2-years-old presently.
The 33-year-old deputy lived in Buena Park, and was relieved of duty by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department last week, with full pay.
Deputy Flores was a member of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for seven years in the Court Services / Transit Department.
LASD has been rocked by scandals within their jail system, where Deputy Flores will spend at least the next six months living.
The formerly elected, Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca, took a plea deal recently and his Undersheriff Paul Tanaka was found guilty at trial in April in the scandal, when they interfered with the FBI’s investigation of their department.
It all started this past June 28th, when prosecutors alleged that Deputy Flores had an argument over the child’s pacifier, that is when they claimed, “Flores pushed the woman into a wall, hit her on the top of her head with his fist and grabbed her neck, knocking her to the ground.”
According to the LA Times, Deputy Flores was due in court shortly, but the plea deal will include all of the charges as they explained here:
Deputy Alejandro Flores is expected to appear in court Tuesday on multiple charges of domestic battery, aggravated assault, dissuading a witness, criminal threats, false imprisonment and assault likely to produce great bodily harm, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.
If convicted as charged, Deputy Flores would have faced 25 years and eight months in state prison.
Prosecutors originally asked for five years in prison before settling on a 6 month jail sentence and probation
