Justin Hipps, 35, of Covington, VA was arrested and taken into custody April 5 by Virginia State Police investigators, charged with one felony count of possession of child pornography. The charge is a class 6 felony, according to state police spokesman Sgt. Rick Garletts.
No information about the investigation or the circumstances of the charge was released.
Hipps was terminated the same day of his arrest, according to ABC 13 News.
Hipps was hired in February 2007 and assigned as a trooper to the Salem Division.
Hipps is being held in the Alleghany County Jail, and online records show his next court date is an April 16 bond hearing.
A lawyer listed in court records as his attorney could not be reached for comment.
