After managing to flee from police in his Hyundai who were trying to cite him for a tail light violation, Florida Man Nicholas Jones called 911 that same day to brag about his escape, practically begging for them to arrest him.
St. John’s County sheriff’s deputies obliged the following day after spotting his car outside a Ross clothing store on May 5, arresting him for reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, misusing 911 and violation of probation, according to First Coast News.
The 19-year-old man sped off after being pulled over as the deputy was walking towards his car to cite him.
“That cop had no right to stop me,” Jones said to police according to his arrest report. “I saw him turn his lights and sirens on and was going to stop but I didn’t want to.”
On his way to jail, he questioned police about “how can you find me in a store but not when I run from you guys,” according to the arrest report.
Police say they were able to track him down from his 911 phone call.
“That’s funny. So I told on myself?” he replied, later adding: “No cop can catch me in my Hyundai Elantra — that thing is fast.”
The Elantra has been clocked going from 0 to 60 as fast as 7.8 seconds, almost two seconds slower than many cop cars.
