An 18-year-old high school girl said she was raped by her high school coach who is also a New Mexico state police officer.
She said she reported the rape to three teachers but not one of them reported it.
It was not until her mother found a notebook where her daughter described the rape in vivid detail that the alleged incident was reported, according to KRQE.
The teen says it happened back in March when she was a high school senior. She claims the assistant coach of the Grants girls’ soccer team lured her into his car, held her against her will and raped her.
“He made her feel like she was at fault and used his authority to turn it on her,” her mom says.
The 18-year-old’s mom says she didn’t know him personally but thought as a State Police officer, he must be trustworthy.
“He’s a State Police officer and all the girls seemed to look up to him. I didn’t think about worrying that he would be that type of person,” she says.
The Grants School District fired the cop from his assistant coach of the girls’ soccer team but the state police have placed him on leave while they conduct an internal investigation.
The three teachers who knew about the rape but did not report it have resigned. The name of the cop has not been released.
Several commenters on the KRQE FB page on this article seem to be in disbelief a cop could ever commit rape.
