Westmoreland police officer, Amanda Lynn Wolfe, 26, has turned herself in on Tuesday after being charged with assault. The charge stems from an investigation of using excessive force on a handcuffed suspect.
Wolfe performed a traffic stop on August 7 where a passenger had active warrants. The passenger attempted to flee, which led to a brief foot chase. The passenger, whose name has not been released, was eventually caught and handcuffed.
During the investigation into the incident, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation found that Wolfe repeatedly struck the suspect in the back while he was handcuffed and not resisting, according to the Westmoreland’s press release.
The investigation was opened two days later, at the request of 18th District Attorney General Ray Whitley.
Wolfe was booked into the Sumner County Jail and later was released on her own recognizance, according to the release.
Wolfe is currently on leave as of August 9.
