A Birmingham, Alabama detective has been arrested and charged with murder after a shooting into an unmarked patrol car transpired. 39-year-old Alfreda Fluker is a detective with the Birmingham Police Department and she was arrested on April 11 on suspicion of shooting and killing a woman in a slaying the Birmingham police chief described as a “love triangle gone wrong.”
According to The New York Times, authorities responded to a shooting call around 11:51 p.m. on April 10 where a female was shot several times. The female was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Kanisha Fuller.
According to authorities, Fluker is accused of shooting into an unmarked police vehicle while Fuller was inside the vehicle with an off duty police detective at a city park. The off duty detective in the vehicle was Mario Theodore White. White was not injured during the shooting.
Birmingham police say that the shooting involved a love triangle and is domestic in nature. Fluker is charged with murder and attempted murder.
Since this is an officer involved shooting, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation will be leading the investigation.
Fluker has been with the Birmingham Police Department for 15 years. She worked with the Birmingham Crime Reduction Team.
Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith said the following:
“This is not a press conference that I wanted to give today or any other day, but it’s about the facts and the realities of life. It’s a press conference about a love triangle gone wrong, something that happened very bad this morning.”
