Less than six months after he became an Akron police officer, Adam Campbell was criminally charged with attacking a man outside a Cleveland hotel last month, leaving the man hospitalized with six broken ribs, a cracked pelvic bone, lacerated face and a swollen, black eye.
The incident took place after a black-tie police fundraiser in which Campbell apparently attended; the [__15th Annual Salute to Our Heroes Benefit__](http://photographyisnotacrime.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/salute.html) sponsored by the Cleveland Police Scholarship Fund.
A surveillance video captured the incident in which Campbell attacked the man while two friends, possibly fellow cops, held him down.
Campbell, 28, was dressed in a tuxedo and appeared very drunk, according to witnesses. Cleveland police say they are still trying to identify his two friends. Akron police say Campbell has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Although the incident took place on March 29, more than a week ago, no arrest has been made, even though a warrant has been issued for Campbell’s arrest for a charge of felonious assault.
Obviously, even rookie cops receive the Blue Privilege because how hard can it be to find him?
The victim, Steven Crupp, 31, said he had never met Campbell before the attack.
The surveillance video from the hotel has not yet been released.
According to [__Cleveland.com:__](http://photographyisnotacrime.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/akron_police_officer_charged_i.html)
> Crupp met two women at the Blue Bar at the Wyndham March 29 after he went to the NCAA Elite 8 game.
> Also at the hotel that night was the Cleveland Police Scholarship Fund’s annual black-tie optional charity auction. The $75-per plate gala was open to anyone willing to donate to the scholarship fund and was not exclusively attended by police officers.
> Crupp said he was jumped by a man wearing a tuxedo in front of the hotel just after midnight. Cleveland police Monday identified that man as Campbell and obtained a warrant for his arrest, according to a sworn affidavit.
> Crupp said two other men helped hold him down. He was left with six broken ribs, a stress fracture in his hip and an abscess in his tooth after the attack.
> A valet manager on duty at the hotel that night said he saw a group of people quickly shepherd the attacker into a taxi cab, which drove away. The valet manager, Kenneth Hillner, told Northeast Ohio Media Group that the attacker appeared “heavily intoxicated.”
> The hotel’s security cameras caught the incident. Northeast Ohio Media Group requested a copy of the footage Wednesday. Cleveland police spokesman Sgt. Ali Pillow said the department had to subpoena the Wyndham to get a copy of the footage, which it first obtained on Friday.
Photos from the fundraiser can be seen on this [__Flickr account__](http://photographyisnotacrime.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/page3), but it doesn’t appear as if Campbell is in any of the photos as he was probably too busy getting sloshed at the bar.
Considering Campbell likely attended the event with his buddies, it shouldn’t be that hard to determine the identifies of the other two men.
But the wheels of justice move very slow when the suspect in the crime is a cop.
Can you imagine how quickly arrests would have been made had Campbell been the one held down by two men while a third man attacked him?
Or for that matter, how quickly the surveillance video would have been released?
