A Gaston County Sheriff’s Office detention officer was arrested in Lowell, NC early Friday morning after police said he broke the jaw of a deputy he works with at the Gaston County Jail.
Trevor Adams, 27, was booked into jail on a charge of felony assault causing serious bodily injury, Fox 46 News reports.
On July 5 around 1:45 a.m. a fight between Adams and Deputy Francisco Cortez Mendez broke out at a party on Lowell Road. The men were at a party that was attended by other law enforcement officers who tried to break up the fight.
Officers at the party saw Mendez go to the ground and Adams continue to punch him. Adams returned twice to punch Mendez after initially knocking him out.
911 was called and on duty responding officers found Mendez unconscious and bleeding from his nose and mouth. The assault left Mendez with a possibly fractured eye socket, a fractured jaw, and a split tongue. Adams registered a 0.18 on an alcohol breath test.
He has been suspended, according to Sheriff Alan Cloninger. Adams was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in September 2014.
