On October 7 Oklahoma Police Officer Wendell Birt, 33, was arrested on multiple complaints after being accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
On Oct. 2, the Wewoka Police Department requested Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation assistance in investigating allegations of Brit raping a 14-year-old female high school student. The student told school officials that Brit who was a Wewoka police officer, began communicating with her via Snapchat in May 2019, KFOR News reports.
Over the course of several months, authorities said, Birt asked the girl for sexually explicit photographs and received them. They met on three occasions in Wewoka, Oklahoma where Birt allegedly raped the teen, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation obtained an arrest warrant and the Bureau of Indian Affairs arrested Birt Monday on multiple complaints, including three counts of rape, two counts of rape by instrumentation and one count of lewd or indecent proposals or acts to child under 16.
Birt was booked into the Caddo County Jail on a $500,000 bail.
Birt recently left the Wewoka Police Department and worked as a police officer for the Delaware Nation of Oklahoma. Delaware Nation of Oklahoma officials say that Birt is no longer employed with them and they are cooperating with all investigations.
